It is no secret that most knitters and crocheters will make their own Christmas gifts.

We LOVE our craft (and yarn), so much that we want to give handmade gifts to everyone.
The only trouble we encounter is TIME!

It is not too easy to estimate how long it will take us to knit something. Specially because we tend to be overly optimistic.
We often estimate that something will take us way less time than it actually ends up taking, and we fall short finishing all the presents we wanted to make.

Things like work, chores, and just life responsibilities will get in our way, and sometimes it will cause us to fall behind in our making schedule.

We often start slow, and with a laid back attitude. We know we have plenty of time, so we don’t worry about it, and just knit or crochet sparingly here and there.

But as the days go by, and the closer we get to Christmas, some of us realize that we’re not even half finished!
What happens next is that we try to overcompensate, so we stay up late, knitting and crocheting away as much as possible.

The best way to avoid this, of course, is planing!

But how can you plan if you don’t even know how long it will take you to make something?

Well, I found a handy little tool, that will help you estimate that!

Just click HERE!

You need to select on of the 3 skill level options:

  • an eager beginner
  • a pretty knifty knitter
  • a knitting whizz

After that, select the amount of hours per week that you intend to knit or crochet.

And finally, select what kind of item you will be making: A hat, socks, blanket, sweater, etc.

And this tool will calculate for you an estimate of how long it could take you to finish this.

This tool was designed for knitters, but if you crochet, just subtract some time, as crochet tends to be worked faster than knitting. OR, so be safe, just take the knitting estimate.

Now, all you need to do, is add up all the hours needed for ALL the gifts that you plan to make for gifts.

This way it will be way easier to schedule your making time, and will ensure you finish all your gifts without having a last minute rush.

Happy knitting or crocheting!!
