In today’s post, I want to share a free crochet pattern to make a short cowl. I decided to name it “Loopy Cowl” because of the stitches that appear in the pattern.
Loopy Cowl – Free Crochet Pattern:
Loopy cowl is a short cowl, very cozy and fluffy. It is also a very quick project (You can finish it in one or two hours, depending on how fast you can crochet and how much time you spend on the project).
Is very simple, and it will look good with any yarn color.
The loopy cowl is a perfect fall accessory. If created with a nice neutral yarn it could be paired with almost any outfit.
And because it doesn’t use much yarn, is a perfect stash buster, and you can easily make many colors of the loopy cowl.
The loopy cowl also makes for a great holiday gift.

What you need to know about the Loopy Cowl – Free Crochet Pattern
Skil level: easy to intermediate (maker needs to know how to crochet the loop stitch)
Size: one size fits most – 11.5 inches long/29 cm (about 23 inches/ 59 cm around ) by 5 inches/12 cm tall
Gauge: ( In loop stitch) 3 stitches by 4 rows = 1 inch
Stitches used and their abbreviations:
- Chain = ch
- Single crochet – sc
- Loop stitch = lp st
- Slip stitch = sl st

Yarn: Worsted weight yarn, about 220 to 250 yards ( 201 to 228 meters)
Other Materials:
- Crochet hook size I (5.5 mm)
- Large eyed sewing needle (to weave in ends)
Loopy Cowl – Free Crochet Pattern
Ch 60. Join with a sl st and work in rounds.
Round 1: Sc across. sl st to close.
Round 2: Ch 1. Lp st across. sl st to close.
Rounds 3 to 16: Ch 1. Lp st across. sl st to close.
Fasten off. Weave in ends and then turn cowl inside out.
